How To Insure a High Dollar Package

Got a high dollar item you want to sell? Not sure where to purchase insurance from? USPS, FedEx, and UPS offers insurance BUT you can also get it from a third party which is cheaper. Shipsaver is the third party insurance choice of most eBay sellers.

First things first, in your listing, include that you will require a signature confirmation so that the buyer realizes in order to purchase your item, they must be home or go to the post office to pick it up. A signature confirmation is not required by eBay unless the selling amount is over $250, but it does give the seller a peace of mind. Mentioning that you will be asking for signature confirmation in the listing helps deter surprises for the customer. If you ask for signature confirmation and the person is not home, the PO will leave a notice. The buyer then has to ask for it to be redelivered when they are home or go to the PO to pick it up and sign for it. Most likely you will have an irate customer if they weren't aware of this up front.

You can provide your customer with the USPS Track & Confirm link so that they can follow it. And since you have their email address in your PayPal account, sign them up on that tracking number AT the USPS track and confirm website, for email notifications all the way from your house to theirs. This will give them an email daily telling them where their package is.
